When should I visit the Pain Unit?
When pain persists for more than three months or does not improve with conventional treatments, specialized assessment is recommended.
What is the difference between acute and chronic pain?
Acute pain appears suddenly and usually has a specific cause (injury, surgery). Chronic pain persists over time and can affect the patient’s physical and emotional state.
Are the treatments invasive?
Not necessarily. Most of the procedures we perform are minimally invasive and are carried out with ultrasound or radiological guidance.
Can I continue my normal life during treatment?
Yes. Many procedures allow the patient to return to their daily activities within a few hours or days.
Does pain treatment cure the cause or just relieve the symptoms?
Our goal is to treat the origin of the pain whenever possible, not just its symptoms. That is why we perform a multidisciplinary evaluation before defining the therapeutic plan.

- Dr. Coralia Sosa Pérez: A neurosurgeon with a solid background. After completing her Residency and becoming an Area Specialist Physician (Facultativo Especialista de Área) at the Hospital Universitario de Gran Canaria Dr. Negrín, she has developed extensive clinical experience in the treatment of spinal column pathologies. Her dedication to research, which includes an Outstanding Cum Laude doctoral thesis and her participation in projects on Intradiscal Ozone Therapy for disc herniations, positions her as an expert in the surgical and minimally invasive approach to chronic pain associated with neurological and spinal problems. Dr. Sosa is also an Associate Professor at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC).
